Order Henry the Lion was founded in 1834 by Duke Wilhelm as the highest decoration of Duchy of Brunswick. Cross of Merit 2nd class was at that time its lowest grade, in 1903 the order was extended by Honor Decoration in Silver (medal), in 1908 2nd class medal was introduced in bronze. The cross without swords was awarded for civil and peacetime merits, for war merits there was the cross with swords.
Scarce version made by Hermann Jürgens, Braunschweig. Back marked with silver content mark .900, with halfmoon & crown and initials of the manufacturer (HJ).
Silver, very nice condition, on original old ribbon.
