Médaille Militaire – Military Medal
Estanlished in January 22, 1852 by Louis Napoleon Bonaparte as President of the Second Republic. The medal can be awarded to non-commissioned officers and enisted men of the armed forces who have distinguished themselves through courageous efforts or were wounded in battle. It can also be awarded to foreigners in French military service and members of the French merchant marine. In special exceptional cases, the military medal can be awarded to marshals and commanding generals.
Type 7, version with one-sided suspension and hinge, from the III. Republic period (here probably from World War I).
Silver, partially enamelled and gilded, very nicely preserved, on the old original ribbon.
