Instituted 14.3.1821 by the prince-elector Wilhelm II of Heesen-Kassel. Awarded to soldiers fighting against France (Napoleonic Wars, in Germany called Brefreiungskriege = Liberation Wars). Combatant version, made of bronze from captured enemy canons: on the rim inscription AUS EROBERTEM GESCHÜTZ.
Nice awarded original, with edge inscription. For its age excellent condition, on the old ribbon.
