Kriegerehrenzeichen in Eisen – Warrior Iron Decoration of Honor 1917

Award from the First World War period, instituted on March 13, 1917 by the Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig on his 25th reign anniversary. Awarded to Hessian soldiers who served in front units for at least two years and were wounded once or twice (hence called “bloody Ludwig”). Further criterium of what former possession of the Iron Cross and the Hessian Bravery Medal. Only about 2000 pieces awarded, scarce.
Wreath of lacquered iron (magnetic), ducal monogram of zinc (silver plating gone), fastened with two rivets. Very nice condition, pin system complete.
